The following keyboard access keys are available throughout the Elements web interface. Some pages within the web interface declare additional access keys. Microsoft Internet Explorer users can invoke them by pressing ALT + the numeric key. The following list defines the numeric key (numeric keys from the keyboard, not the numeric keypad) and a description of its action.
Note: The preceeding access keys do not work in Firefox version 2.0. Firefox 2.0 requires SHIFT+accesskey.
Query results are presented in tables which have their own keyboard shortcuts.
The standard Elements HTML user interface will work, but may not be optimal, for use with screenreader software. A set of specialized templates is available that has been designed to give better results with this software. After logging in, go to your "My Prefereneces" page. There you will find an option for the "Accessible Desktop". Selecting this option will customize your environment to work better with the screenreader. For security purposes this will initially be a read only environment, your system administrator can assign a set of accessible templates that will give you the full read/write capability.
Note for JAWS users. Occasionally the shortcut key ( key alt+2 ) for skipping directly to content will not work correctly while JAWS is reading. To work around this problem press the Control key to stop the reading, and then use the shortcut key.
If you have difficulty accessing the Data Tables (described above) you can access the same information by means of the Alternate View hyperlink following the query header.
Note to Administrators. Elements includes some Java based applications for management tasks. These interfaces are not compatible with screen readers. You may however, accomplish the same tasks by using the links under the "Accessible Tools For User and Class Administration." heading on the AdminTasks page.
